Like other Perodua models, the SR, SX and SXi were five-speed manual transmission, while the EZ and EZi models were 4-speed automatic transmission. Latter variants were upgraded to 1.3 L and 1.5 L engines, respectively. Differences among variants can be seen in the body and external features of the car.

Safety also improved in latter designs. The latest model employs new advanced safety systems (ASA). These features include Pre-Collision Braking (PCB), Front Departure Alert (FDA) and Pedal Misoperation Control (PMC). The FDA is interesting in that it can monitor the motion of car in front of you. It alerts you that the car in front of you has begun moving. This is especially helpful when you are stuck in slow-moving traffic.

What are some of its direct competitors?
Perodua MyVi was the bestselling Malaysian car for almost a decade from 2005-2013. Its direct competitors correspond to Proton counterparts, Inokom models from Hyundai and other foreign made brands. Data on sales show that Perodua Myvi has smoked the competition in terms of unit sold.
The MyVi brand is the heart of the Perodua company. It is what made Perodua the car manufacturing company of Malaysia. Prior to MyVi, Proton has the highest market share in the Malaysian market. When 2005 came, the Proton Savvy was intended to compete directly against MyVi. Overall sales from both Proton Savvy and Perodua MyVi showed that MyVi was the preferred of Malaysians. This led to the end of production of the Proton Savvy brand in 2011. Perodua MyVi paved the way for Perodua to be the car leader in Malaysia ahead of Proton.
How well it sold?
Perodua MyVi continues to sell well in the Malaysian market. Latest 2017 figures showed that it sold around 200,000 units. Since 2005, more than a million unit has been sold. Assuming that the 200,000 unit sold value continues to be the trend, sales for the 2nd million can be reached in less time than the 1st million sold.
General impression from first generation MyVi drivers were mostly positive. Comparison between the first variants to the latest model highlights the significant improvements in terms of safety, overall aesthetic, in-car accessories and engine performance from latter Daihatsu engine. Although it is still behind foreign-made brands in terms of design, outlook for the future of new models based on Perodua MyVi is very encouraging.
